Lesson One: EMPOWER YOUR GIFT

Lesson One: EMPOWER YOUR GIFT

“Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God.”

 -Leo Buscaglia

I almost missed the call of destiny. I made the decision to become an educator less than two years before graduating from college. It was the first time I allowed myself to listen to the voice inside that I had been ignoring for years. I…was…born…to…teach. Standing in the space of solitude, feeling the eyes of truth pierce past my confidence, I felt the breath of vulnerability and freedom run through my soul. I had no choice. Here was my chance to obey God’s call and allow myself to be seen.

Almost 15 years later, I have no regrets.

One of the main reasons I created this blog was to inspire you as an educator to be intentional about the work you do. Embrace your decisions with authenticity and root them in the reasoning power of thought because when the two unite, the origins of intentionality are birthed. I begin our journey together with the first lesson….

Lesson One: EMPOWER YOUR GIFT

Your gift needs confidence. I believe ALL educators are born, not made. I subscribe to a business management philosophy by Marcus Buckingham, author of Standout 2.0, that explores the idea that we were born with a specific set of innate abilities that I like to call “gifts”. If the word gift means having a special or unusual ability or talent, then what special abilities do you possess? Do you even know? The intentional educator has an intense awareness of self and knows the gift that lives within. Consider the amount of time and effort you have contributed to hiding your gift, especially when it was not honored or respected by those around you in the workplace. Think about how much better of an educator you would be if you allowed yourself to teach with your gift in mind. Wouldn’t it be empowering to bring yourself to your classroom? Be confident and take hold of the gift you were born to use for the glory of God.

What gift are you willing to give back to God?
